Key Briefs & Reports: First CAMSA Meeting

The first meeting of the Coalition to Abolish Modern-day Slavery in Asia (CAMSA) Champion Team took place on June 13, 2009. Dr. Thang Nguyen, Executive Director of Boat People SOS and a founding member of CAMSA, made a presentation on CAMSA and its activities. The presentation included a case that CAMSA is working on involving Sony in Malaysia.

CAMSA is working on behalf of 15 Vietnamese workers who have been trafficked by Vietnamese state-owned labor export companies to Malaysia to work for Sony. These workers have been abused and subjected to mental and emotional distress by JR Holdings, a labor supply company in Malaysia. CAMSA is working to ensure that Sony fulfils the contract that was signed between Sony and the 15 Vietnamese workers.
