Key Briefs & Reports: CAMSA Alerts Vietnamese Workers in Malaysia to Rights, Resources

clipboard May 4, 2009: Per the plan announced here earlier this year, the Coalition to Abolish Modern-day Slavery (CAMSA) team in Penang has successfully completed the first wave of a wide outreach campaign to Vietnamese guest workers.

The outreach campaign aims to make the workers, most of whom are isolated from support, more aware of their rights and the resources CAMSA offers.

“We have distributed thousands of flyers in a multitude of locations frequented by Vietnamese workers here in Penang,” said a CAMSA staffer leading the effort. “We have also conducted outreach in Kuala Lumpur, targeting locations including the workers’ place of employment, their housing, and the grocery stores and internet cafes they frequent.”
