Key Briefs & Reports: CAMSA Clarifying Terms of Spektra Alucast Agreement

money May 1, 2009: After reviewing a letter from Spektra Alucast, the Coalition to Abolish Modern-day Slavery in Asia (CAMSA) is working to clarify the key terms of an agreement to resolve problems with the firm’s treatment of some 30 Vietnamese guest workers.

The Vietnamese workers were recruited from some of Vietnam’s poorest regions. When the global economic crisis hit, they were cut loose by the firm and their work visas expired.

One of the terms of the agreement under discussion is that Spektra Alucast will provide monetary assistance for the workers who are repatriated to Vietnam. The company must confirm the specific amount per worker before the CAMSA team considers further movement on the case.
