Key Briefs & Reports: CAMSA to Investigate Reported Assaults on Vietnamese Workers in Malaysia

malFebruary 19, 2009: The Malaysia office of the Coalition to Abolish Modern-day Slavery in Asia (CAMSA) has received information concerning Vietnamese workers in Sungai Petani, Malaysia. According to reports, workers have been physically assaulted by their employers and restricted from working. These workers now have no work and cannot return home because the employer is in possession of their passports.

CAMSA staff members are currently investigating the situation. More updates should follow shortly.
