Key Briefs & Reports: Vietnamese Workers Denounce Labor Export Activities of V-COALIMEX, LEAPRODEXIM, LETCO

The Hanoi branch of V-Coalimex, whose sign reads “Labor Export Center.”

October 9, 2008: Many Vietnamese workers who were voluntarily repatriated from Jordan have come forth to expose the companies V-COALIMEX, LEAPRODEXIM, and LETCO for violations of labor export laws. Specifically, one group of 27 workers declared that they only belatedly found that there was no record that they had ever left for Jordan. Another group pointed out that they were told to sign the contract only a few hours before departure, were taken to the airport at night, and were told not to disclose their destination.

These same firms are the ones that collected huge fees from the workers, who now face the loss of land and homes they mortgaged to raise the money.
