Key Briefs & Reports: Jordan Workers, Seeking Redress, Enter Maze of Vietnamese Bureaucracy

September 29, 2008: The repatriated workers who struck against unfair labor conditions in Jordan have sent letters of complaint denouncing the labor export firms to the Prime Minister, the Inspection Committee, Labor Committee, the Peoples Committees, women’s groups, and news outlets.

The workers have requested that the government investigate and prosecute the firms for their violation of labor laws. One such violation consists of forcing workers to sign contracts hours before boarding a plane to their destination countries. The law stipulates that there must be at least five days from the signing of the contract to leaving Vietnam to work.
