Key Briefs & Reports: One Eye on the PTA Case – One Eye on the Future

September 4, 2008: We are still closely watching developments in the PTA case, but we are satisfied that for now, all sides are living up to their commitments. If that changes, we will count on you to help us let the world know. In the meantime, our near-term, three-prong focus will be on:

  1. Making sure labor export companies and brokers fully refund the workers’ fees and deposits, and pay them compensation for distress and hardship
  2. Continuing to press the governments of the destination countries to investigate (and if warranted by findings, to prosecute) brokers and employers on charges of exploitation, abduction, and human trafficking
  3. Pressing the Vietnamese government to investigate the brokers, labor export companies, and certain government officials for breaking laws and possibly for labor trafficking
