Key Briefs & Reports: PTA Workers, Now Home, Await Polar Electro’s Assistance

September 3, 2008: All 23 Polar Twin Advance (PTA) workers have by now returned home to Vietnam safe and sound. They have not yet, however, received the financial assistance provided by Polar Electro (the Finnish shareholder in PTA). This is because the bank requires their passports, which the Vietnamese embassy kept and passed directly to the Malaysian customs. The assistance is being sent to them this week via a secure system.

Nonetheless, some of the workers have called back to Malaysia to say “thanks” to the people who have helped them escape from their situation of powerlessness and poverty.
