Key Briefs & Reports: Initial Reports of Progress Emerge in PTA Talks

Polar Twin Advance workers prepare for negotiations in the waiting room of the Industrial Relations Department in Malaysia.

August 12, 2008: The latest round of negotiations between the Polar Twin Advance workers and Polar Electro, which owns 60 percent of PTA, looks to be shaping up as a victory.

According to those familiar with the talks, funds are being transferred to the victims, per the demands of local non-governmental organizations and the Coalition to Abolish Modern-day Slavery (CAMSA), the international NGO alliance which BPSOS helped found. The latest reports are that the victims will be paid in full, including back pay and compensation for their pain and suffering.
