Key Briefs & Reports: Deported PTA Workers Return to Claim Just Compensation

July 22, 2008: Two former Polar Twin Advance (PTA) workers arrived today in Penang to start legal proceedings against their former employer. They were returning from Vietnam, to which they had been deported by Malaysian authorities under arrangements by the firm.

The workers plan to demand compensation for the mistreatment suffered by them and their co-workers at the hands of PTA. The comprehensive compensation package they are pressing for will include:

  1. Air fare back to Vietnam
  2. Full salary for the remainder of the contract
  3. Payment for breach of contract
  4. Emotional damages
  5. Reimbursement for months of deducted salary
  6. Full payment for months not allowed to work

BPSOS will also push for a criminal suit in addition to the civil suit.
