Key Briefs & Reports: Justice Eludes Vietnamese Workers at Spektra Alucast

Spektra Alucast Vietnam Vietnamese BPSOS Boat People SOS CAMSA human trafficking Ủy Ban Cứu Người Vượt Biển UBCNVB nạn buôn ngườiJune 18, 2009: Spektra Alucast, which only recently showed signs of good faith in its dealing with some 30 Vietnamese guest workers, has nevertheless failed to pay them their salaries in full.

This situation is of great concern to the Coalition to Abolish Modern-day Slavery in Asia (CAMSA), as is Spektra Alucast’s failure to follow through on repatriating those workers who wish to return to Vietnam.

“Spektra Alucast has cited financial hardship as the reason for the unpaid wages, but that is no excuse to leave workers stranded without work and without pay,” said a CAMSA staff member at the Penang office.

CAMSA is monitoring the situation and will continue to report on Spektra Alucast failure or success in meeting the terms set forth by workers’ rights advocates.
